Not every family session starts with well rested kids, perfect moods, or ideal conditions and honestly, those are often the sessions that end up meaning the most.

This sunset family session at the flower field in St. Augustine was a beautiful reminder that connection matters more than perfection.

When Toddlers Aren’t Feeling Their Best

This family arrived with two sweet toddlers who simply weren’t having their best day. Big feelings, low energy, and a little overwhelm were all part of the story and instead of fighting it, we leaned into it.

There was no pressure. No forcing smiles. Just patience, flexibility, and meeting them exactly where they were.

Making the Best of What We Had

The flower field worked its quiet magic. Wildflowers swayed in the breeze, butterflies floated through the air, and the soft glow of sunset wrapped everything in warmth. The kids slowly began to explore, touching petals, watching butterflies, and finding small moments of curiosity and calm.

And then dad pulled out the ultimate toddler distraction… whipped cream.

A few laughs, a few licks, and suddenly the mood shifted. Not perfect, but lighter. Real. Joyful in its own way.

Why These Sessions Matter

These are the moments families often forget but the ones worth remembering most. The days when parenting feels hard. The evenings when you show up anyway. The love that shows up even when energy is low and emotions are big.

This session wasn’t about posed portraits. It was about documenting a real season of life, one that so many parents are living right now.

An Organic Approach to Family Photography

My approach to family photography is rooted in grace and realism. Kids don’t need to perform. Parents don’t need to stress. We slow things down, follow their lead, and allow space for authentic moments to unfold, however that looks that day.

Sometimes that means running and laughing.

Sometimes that means snuggles, snacks, and quiet exploration.

All of it is worthy of being remembered.

Serving St. Augustine Families

I love photographing families in and around St. Augustine who value connection over perfection. Whether your kids are full of energy or feeling a little off, there is always beauty to be found, especially when we give ourselves permission to let go of expectations.

For the Parents Doing Their Best

If you’ve ever worried that your kids won’t cooperate for photos, let this be your reminder: they don’t have to.

I would love to capture your family just as you are, even on the hard days, because those days deserve to be seen too.
